In a recent interview with Variety, Salma Hayek spoke about her first experience in a superhero movie and revealed that she was terrified the first time she had to wear her Eternals costume.
The actress plays Ajak, a kind of immortal humanoids who leads a superhero team in Marvel’s newest feature film, based on the Jack Kirby comic book series.
While telling Variety about the film and the whole experience of giving life to a superhero, the actress admitted that the most exciting moment for her during filming was to wear her costume for the first time.
The emotion, however, was not positive, because, in reality, the actress was terrified to wear her very tight attire, because she is claustrophobic.
“I’m claustrophobic. I was terrified of the costume. Because I was afraid I couldn’t move because (the costume) was a little thick. I was like, Oh my God, I’m not going to be able to breathe. This is going to make me crazy. And I went to put it on, I was deeply emotional. It was a very strange experience because I didn’t expect it. Did I forget how that fits? Am I going to have a claustrophobic attack? All I could think about was, Oh my God, here’s a Mexican woman in this outfit and it’s really happening. And yes, we can be superheroes,” she said.
The director of the film, Chloé Zhao said that she was astonished to see Hayek with her costume because she exuded strength and beauty.
“I think we’ve all been blown away,” she revealed that Hayek wasn’t the first star to have a strong emotional reaction to wearing her costume for the first time. Previously, Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu, confessed that he almost cried when he first donned his costume.
Salma Hayek won’t be the only new character in the world of superheroes in Eternals, as Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, Brian Tyree Henry, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani and Richard Madden are also joining the MCU.
The film is set to hit the theatres on November 5 and follows a group of immortal aliens who have lived on Earth for more than 7,000 years, and ended up gathering to protect humanity from deviants villains.
