“Over the years we have not interfered… so far,” says one of the Eternals in the trailer for Chloé Zhao‘s most-awaited film. It is also very well known that these are marvel’s most powerful characters.
Then a natural question arises is that what were they doing when Thanos eliminated half of the life of the Universe? The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy joined forces to defeat the Mad Titan, but why didn’t the Eternals help?
In the comics, the Celestials created Eternals from human DNA and the monstrous Deviants. The creators of the Eternals entrusted them with a mission, to observe the development of humanity, without interfering at least until the Celestials made a value judgment on the human race.
In the comics, Thanos is linked to the Eternals, so he has the ability to manipulate the Infinity Stones. Her cousin Thena, played by Angelina Jolie is part of the Eternals group on Earth.
It is not yet clear why these beings did not face the Mad Titan or if they will show their relationship with the villain.
The truth is that in graphic novels an Eternal decided to act to help humans. Gilgamesh, who is later exiled from Earth and is now known as the “The Forgotten One”. Time to speculate: if the Eternals act against the Deviants because the latter is the creation of the Celestials? Perhaps the creators of both races need to ask the peaceful observers to act.
Everything indicates that the Deviant threat could be worse than Thanos’s. The stakes are high because the Mad Titan managed to defeat Earth’s heroes and, for five long years, maintained that victory until the Avengers figured out how to alter the villain’s actions.
