The second wave of coronavirus is wreaking havoc across the country and many people are losing their lives every day. From a common people to the business, no one is being spared.
The film industry is not an exception and many dancers working as background dancers in films have faced a livelihood crisis here. Due to lockdown, they do not have work and their sources of income have been shut down.
Actor Akshay Kumar has come forward to help these dancers. The actor has given dancers the option to take a one-month ration kit or money.
Choreographer Ganesh Acharya told ETimes that Akshay is very kind. He said, “On my 50th birthday, Akshay asked me what kind of birthday gift I wanted. On this, I asked him to provide month-long rations to 1600 junior choreographers and old dancers and about 2000 background dancers. Akshay immediately got ready. My wife is fully active in the Ganesh Acharya Foundation. She herself looks after packing and distribution. The distribution area is wise and safety and health are taken care of. Dancers and choreographers whose details are registered with us are either given ration kits or enough money to buy the necessary items.”
According to Ganesh Acharya, the system of providing areawise help to dancers has been in use for over a year. It may be recalled that many from the cinema industry had already met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and demanded that they be allowed to shoot in the state from next month to save the industry from major losses and provide employment to the people. Most of the shows are currently under closure and those who are running are shooting and running in outside states.
